I had always wanted to try CrossFit, but always felt intimidate of the “CrossFit stereotype”. I was pleasantly surprised at how wrong I was.
I was born and raised in Helena. After high school, I moved around a bit trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Eventually I ended up back home. I’m currently a Budget Analyst for the State Information Technology Service Division under the State of Montana. I also work part-time at Play It Again Sports. I like to be busy hence two jobs and one of the reasons I love CrossFit. In my free time, I like to do all the typical Montana outdoor things – hiking, camping, hunting, gardening. My ultimate favorite hobbies are reading, traveling and checking out the latest concerts.
I started CrossFit because of my sister. In July 2019, she was visiting from California and she wanted to do a drop in at FireTower. She convinced me to go with her to try it out. I had always wanted to try CrossFit, but always felt intimidate of the “CrossFit stereotype”. I was pleasantly surprised at how wrong I was. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by multiple people and everyone was super welcoming. After I survived my first class, I signed up for the On-Ramp program and I’ve been hooked ever since.
The things I like most about CrossFit are how it includes a little bit of everything to create a complete workout. No day is ever the same and there is so much room for continual growth both physically and mentally. CrossFit is so much more than just a sweaty workout. I’m what some people like to call an introvert and tend to keep to myself, CrossFit helps me get out of my bubble and challenge myself every time. I’ve always been active and gone to the gym, but always felt like I never knew what I was doing. I love how CrossFit classes have a workout already planned and there are coaches to help with technique. Lastly the people that do CrossFit are awesome! Everybody is always so encouraging and everyone is always pushing each other to the next level. You can’t get that at a regular gym.
My typical Monday – Friday day starts between 6:00 & 7:00 in the morning. First thing I do when I wake up is start a pot of coffee (that is a must) and feed the fur kids. By 7:00, I’m logged on to my computer and start work. 9ish I eat breakfast. Between 12:00 – 1:00, I take my lunch break. 4:00 is the end of my workday for the state. The last few months I have been doing CrossFit Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings, usually the 4:30 class. I try to get in three CrossFit classes a week. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings I work at the store from 4:30 to 8:30. After I get done with a class or work, it’s dinner time. I’m in bed by 9:30/10:00. On the weekends, I’m working various hours at the store and filling my free time hanging with my dogs or doing one of my hobbies.
I would encourage anybody wanting to try CrossFit to go for it! It has been a great experience so far and I can’t wait to see where I’ll be at in another year.
