The combination of movements and the feeling of accomplishment from doing even the simplest workouts is what kept bringing me back even though I was much sorer than I had ever been.
I was born in Oklahoma and spent 12 years of my life in the Fort Worth area of Texas before moving up to Montana during middle school. I played High School Football, Wrestling, and Golf while attending Frenchtown HS. From there I went to Montana State University in Bozeman for Computer Science. I earned my Masters of Applied Science from the University of Denver in 2015 and have been a Software Developer for Northrop Grumman for the past 12 years. In 2018 I married the love of my life Emily who I met at FireTower and we have two dogs Raven and Stella.
I currently hold a CF Level 1 which I earned in 2015 and I am currently a coach at FireTower, which has been one of the most fun and rewarding things I have done.
I started CrossFit in November of 2013. I had tried several different ways of working out to get back into shape after doing a mile for time a few years prior and had come up woefully slow. I was a member of the YMCA and was utilizing their gym a couple times a week. Jay loaned me his set of Insanity workout DVDs which I did for about a month, but it just wasn’t cutting it. Jay suggested I give CrossFit a try. I was hesitant as all I had seen was the games on TV and it seemed like it was just this crazy fad. I was eventually persuaded and went to a Saturday workout with him where I was hooked. The combination of movements and the feeling of accomplishment from doing even the simplest workouts is what kept bringing me back even though I was much sorer than I had ever been.
What I like about CrossFit the most is the community, the variety of workouts, and it somehow gives a drive to continually improve. As a coach watching all of the members do things that they couldn’t previously do and helping them reach their goals.
My typical day:
6:35- Alarm Goes off
6:50ish – Actually get out of bed and shower
7:30 – Work
12:00 (Friday) Coach CrossFit
1:45 – Lunch
4:30 – CrossFit
5:30 (M/W) Coach CrossFit
7:30ish – Dinner
9:30 – Bed
CrossFit and FireTower in particular has been such an amazing journey for me. I’ve seen 30+ pounds of weight loss. I’ve lifted more than I thought possible in both squatting and Olympic movements. What my goals are have continually evolved. I’m not sure where I’ll end up in my fitness journey but I do know that I’ll have fun doing it and can’t wait to see what everyone in FireTower is capable of achieving.
