Cyndi Alarcon

I grew up in NY and moved to SC when I was in high school. I went to college in Vermont and fell in love
with the mountains. I moved to Big Sky after college and thought I would spend one year as a ski bum.
Fast forward over twenty years and I am still here. After years working as a ski patroller, raft guide,
biologist, naturalist and many other random interim jobs, I became a PA and went graduate school in
Billings, where a classmate brought me to CrossFit on a student special in 2011. I had no idea what it was
but she told me I would like it and I did. I have always been into sports, exercise, fitness, whatever you
want to call it, and I owe that to my mom. She always found time for fitness through raising 5 of us (all
girls) and I grew up with this example. I am also blessed that she instilled a good, balanced diet and a
love of cooking in me. I think I was a pretty high energy, hyper kid. We had a pool in our backyard and if
it was warm enough I was in their sunup to sundown or at the beach with my mom and sisters. I was
also active in organized sports. I started running track at age 8, and got into tumbling and gymnastics,
some ballet, and later played tennis and soccer in high school. I continued to run after college, and
picked up trail running in MT. I stopped running just a few years ago after too many knee surgeries. I
started weight training sometime in college, so by the time I got to CrossFit, it was a natural progression
of all the things I liked.

I love CrossFit because it keeps me ready for all of the other things I like to do- hiking, mountain biking,
skiing, and spending time on the river. I like that I can show up and get a great workout in an efficient
amount of time, and never get bored as things are always changing. It is a great stress relief at the end
of the day, and of course, I love the people here. FireTower is a relaxed environment where you are only
competing against yourself and you push yourself on your own terms.

I work 4 x 10 h days as a PA so my workdays are pretty rote. I get up 6:30-6:45. Coffee. Dog. Make
breakfast/ lunch. Work by 8. I am not usually hungry until around 9 or so, but them game on, I graze all
day and always pack my food with me; there is not a lot of time to sit and eat in healthcare. Work til 6,
home, dog, then gym or go for a hike, mtn bike, or do yoga if I am not going to the gym. Dinner, chill,
bed between 10 and 11. Rinse, repeat. Friday is my day off and that’s when I do all the things and
usually get to a noon class. Twice a month I teach yoga at 1:00 (hint, hint, you should come).
